NAMAF Point-of-Care Pathology Notice

The Namibian Association of Medical Aid Funds (NAMAF) has issued a notice on point-of-care (POC) pathology testing for General Practitioners. POC-specific billing codes have moved into a dedicated POC Pathology sub-discipline, and GPs who want to keep claiming for these tests must register before the deadline. What changed

Following a NAMAF Management Committee decision, POC-specific billing codes have been removed from the General Practitioner schedule. They are now held under a dedicated POC Pathology sub-discipline (code 014 003).

Who it affects

General Practitioners who perform point-of-care pathology tests and want to continue claiming for them. To keep claiming, you must register for the POC Pathology sub-discipline within the grace period set out below.

The application

What you need to apply

To register for the POC Pathology sub-discipline, a GP submits three items to NAMAF. For the exact registration requirements and process, contact NAMAF directly.

  1. Written application

    A written application to NAMAF for the change of sub-discipline registration to point-of-care (POC) pathology.

  2. Valid calibration certificate

    A valid calibration certificate as proof of the POC equipment in your practice.

  3. Proof of ownership or lease

    Proof of ownership — or a lease agreement — for the POC equipment used in your practice.

The timeline

A three-month grace period

Applications open 15 April 2026 and close 31 July 2026. After 31 July 2026, only GPs allocated a POC Pathology sub-discipline number will have their claims reimbursed.
